CREATING HEALTHY SMILES

Find relief from
jaw pain

The temporomandibular joint— commonly known as the “jaw joint”.

Every time you yawn, speak, or chew, you’re using your TMJ. You can feel the joint in action by placing your fingers just in front of your ears and opening your mouth. This joint can often cause pain which is where orthodontics can help.

TMJ/TMD Discomfort

It’s a common belief that a popping sound when you open and close your mouth is always a sign of TMJ dysfunction, but that’s not necessarily the case. In fact, your jaw can be perfectly healthy even if it pops while you’re chewing or talking.

To help assess the condition of your jaw joint, we offer a thorough TMJ exam that evaluates the surrounding tissue. This includes checking for any signs of swelling, deterioration, or damage. By conducting this exam, we can better understand the root cause of any discomfort or pain you may be experiencing and provide a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Long Term Help For TMJ Pain

When it comes to TMJ pain relief, common pain relievers and compresses can offer temporary relief in most cases. However, for more serious cases of TMJ, we recommend alternative treatments to provide lasting relief.

One effective solution we often suggest is the use of a mouthguard to alleviate teeth grinding. Additionally, orthodontic appliances may be recommended to position your TMJ joint in a more comfortable and functional position.

In severe cases of TMJ, we may recommend a more invasive procedure. If you’re experiencing persistent TMJ pain, we encourage you to schedule a free consultation to discuss your options and find a solution that works best for you.
